Is being single a thing? Is it me, or is being single having a moment? Is Being Single the New Mental Health Trend? Why Are Single Moms and Women Embracing the Independence of Single Life?

The list of hot single celebrities, especially celebrity single moms, is growing daily, from Jane Fonda’s sage advice to Sharon Stone (the iconic cinematic sex goddess) to Charlize Theron, who has openly embraced her role as a single mom with a strong sense of independence and fulfillment. She’s clarified that her decision is about prioritizing her kids and staying true to what she values most. Even sexy 90’s RnB goddess Mya has gone on record marrying herself—a real-life testament of thriving on her terms.

‘My life is really good, so you better be able to bring that and maybe better,’ because I just won’t accept anything less.”

Charlize Theron

While being single isn’t new, it’s gaining its excellent status after years of societal scrutiny.

It’s a nervous time for dating, especially with all the binge-worthy cautionary misogynistic celebrity tales of P. Diddy, Russell Brand, Diplo, Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, and Shia Lebouf are a few among many Hollywood sexual and domestic abusers, bombarding our social media channels and keeping us hooked but weary of the drama.

But  Have we all been a bit spooked by the misogyny of the past generations?

Author of ‘My Body’ Emily Ratajkowski interviewed (on her podcast High Low) Amber Rose, of the Slut Walk fame and Kayne West’s former girlfriend. Amber Rose was adamant about having no interest in sleeping around, even stating that people are toxic. This is a solid, unexpected statement from someone famous in the urban celebrity culture. With her experience in the adult industry and the hip-hop scene, Amber is no stranger to living the high life. Still, she is more than meets the eye as a poster child for  ‘Slut Walk’ in the States as this generation’s feminist movement that calls for an end to rape culture, including victim blaming and “slutshaming” of sexual assault victims. Now, she flourishes in motherhood and perhaps spearheads the trend of being a solo mom first. Other celebrities of late are following suit, like Chloe Kardashian, constantly under fire from her famous sister Kim for ‘not living’ and have found happiness in spending quality time with the kids and enjoying mom life, joining the ranks of big-time ‘trad-wife’ (traditional wife) celebrities like Blake Lively, Jennifer Garner, Eva Mendes, and Camron Diaz. Another counterculture trend that is currently happening. This generation is unapologetically redefining how they spend their time.

Maybe that is where we are at, with mental health issues and a growing concern about war, the environment, and the economy. Is it an ongoing trend to value quality of life over a superficial existence? This includes who and how we spend our time and take a break from jumping into relationships.

Even Lenny Kravitz, the hottest 60-year-old Rock Star to date, has been quoted repeatedly as saying he is in the happiest, best place in his life and is serious about celibacy until the right person comes along. If his high standard of health and wealth is anything to go by, it’s logical. Looking at his work-life balance and wellness protocols, only a few would fit nicely.

The Luxury of Independence

Being single offers a unique form of luxury—independence and space. It allows individuals to focus on their passions, careers, and personal growth without the constraints of a relationship. A recent random Facebook clip of a Drew Barrymore interview with Julia Fox captured a moment when both women agreed that a single life was GREAT, and why mess with that? Hmm.. a seemingly trending sentiment that keeps on growing.

Dating as a single mom or single dad takes on a whole new outlook for many reasons:

  1. Time poor and not enough energy to go around
  2. Apprehensive about dating after being hurt
  3. Zero desire to date after a toxic relationship
  4. Shifting priorities like focusing on self-growth and the kids
  5. Enjoying a smaller knit family unit
  6. Grieving over the last relationship
  7. Higher standards after hard lessons

Relationships are journeys with someone else, usually with emotional baggage from early childhood. If mindful work is not done to grow from unwanted behaviors and feelings in relationships, they become permanent and cyclical.

Being a single parent provides an inside look at this. A close look at human psychology is done by observing children’s development. This rare opportunity contextualizes how future relationship dynamics, whether unconscious or not, partner selection and behaviors are formed. Undoubtedly, this insight adds a layer to vetting potential partners more seriously. As a result, time becomes more valuable and not given easily’ over good friends and family. Biologically, any new aspiring suitor is up against an oxytocin (the bonding-loving hormone) bond previously created between parent and child. So there is that too.

Redefining Relationship Goals

Society’s standards of relationships keep evolving, and celebrities provide real-life examples of what not to do (think JLo and Ben). The old ways of rushing into commitments have finally been accepted: Be single and take the time for self-growth. This approach leads to more meaningful and balanced relationships when they partner up. It’s about quality over quantity and ensuring that any relationship adds value to their rich lives.

Conclusion

The high value of being single today cannot be overstated. It represents a shift towards greater self-awareness, mental health, and personal fulfillment. With celebrities like Amber Rose, Khloe Kardashian, and Lenny Kravitz leading by example, the luxury of being single is being celebrated more than ever. For single ladies, especially moms, this is a time to embrace independence, focus on personal growth, and redefine what it means to live a luxurious life. Being single is not just a status; it’s a choice that offers unparalleled freedom and the opportunity to create a life that truly reflects one’s values and desires.
